A story like this makes me regret that we never adopted the guillotine as a form of public entertainment like the French did.

I don’t want it to come to a violent revolution, since sensible people are always the first to die. However, these jackass master of the universe types are really pushing it.

Do they not teach history at their fancy boarding schools?

Seriously, the guillotine is just a fantasy, but really, who could object? These people are beneath scum.

Then, in January 2009, the company did it again. After all those years letting Cassano run wild, and after already getting caught paying out insane bonuses while on the public till, AIG decided to pay out another $450 million in bonuses. And to whom? To the 400 or so employees in Cassano’s old unit, AIGFP, which is due to go out of business shortly! Yes, that’s right, an average of $1.1 million in taxpayer-backed money apiece, to the very people who spent the past decade or so punching a hole in the fabric of the universe! “We, uh, needed to keep these highly expert people in their seats,” AIG spokeswoman Christina Pretto says to me in early February. “But didn’t these ‘highly expert people’ basically destroy your company?” I ask.

And now they’re going to sue us?

I’d like to see the expression “filthy rich” come back into the language for cases like this. The implication that fortunes are often won by foul means has been known to give wealth idolators the vapors, which is useful.

And remember, these are the “job creators” the GOP was fighting tooth and nail to give tax breaks to, and would have given even larger ones to had RMoney won the election.

No kidding. At least one politician is on our side:

From the linked article:

“Beginning in 2008, the federal government poured billions of dollars into AIG to save it from bankruptcy. AIG’s reckless bets nearly crashed our entire economy. Taxpayers across this country saved AIG from ruin, and it would be outrageous for this company to turn around and sue the federal government because they think the deal wasn’t generous enough,” said Warren in a statement. “Even today, the government provides an ongoing, stealth bailout, propping up AIG with special tax breaks — tax breaks that Congress should stop. AIG should thank American taxpayers for their help, not bite the hand that fed them for helping them out in a crisis.”

re: #6 Interesting Times

Of course, Warren was originally supposed to be the head of a new finance regulatory agency created by Dodd-Frank. 100% Republican opposition killed that idea, and then she ran for Senate and won. MA is a blue enough state that she’s likely to be in office as long as she wants.

It looks like she is going to be on a Senate banking/finance committee in the new Congress. Enjoy the fruits of your obstruction, GOP.

Where they gonna go? Do they think some other country will pay them more than they make here?

Guess again.
